One Champion is chosen from each school to compete in the year long tournament of intellect and reasoning - Cedric Diggory is the winner, while Viktor Krum and Fleur Delacour place 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
May-August 2005 Questions and allegations arise immediately after the tournament from influential alumni and supporters from all three schools citing favouritism and assistance for Diggory to obtain the win. An investigation is launched by the Ministry and the Hogwarts Board of Governors over the summer holidays. Dolores Umbridge is placed at Hogwarts for the upcoming schoolyear to monitor the actions of Headmaster Dumbledore and the faculty.
November 2005 - June 2006 Umbridge files routine reports citing Dumbledore as incompetent, and calls for the firing of other professors. These reports are leaked to the media, and parents begin to demand Dumbledore resigns as he is too old for his post. Other teachers are also called upon to be fired, two of which are by the Board of Governors in an effort to appease parents and alumni.
Dumbledore retains his position as Headmaster amidst the reports and Harry Potter creates Dumbledore's Army with the assistance of his friends as a show of support. Under the new school guidelines the social club is illegal, and the students are subjected to detentions that push the boundaries of Hogwarts rules for discipline once caught demonstrating their support for the Headmaster via graffiti in the school corridors. As the news of the detentions breaks, an anonymous source comes forward to explain the exaggerations in Umbridge's reports and she is immediately relived of her duties at Hogwarts.
The two fired professors are reinstated over the summer, while Umbridge returns to her post at the Ministry.
