The oldest and most prestigious boarding school in Scotland, Hogwarts sits in the village of Hogsmeade. Founded in the 1300s, the school has been educating young men and women for centuries and is widely known for its excellent academic standards. Students enjoy some one of the best football programs in the United Kingdom, competing each year for the Quidditch Cup (name derived from unknown origins) and the House Cup, in which points are awarded and reduced by professors within the four houses of Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin.
Students are selected each year to attend Hogwarts via the Board of Governors, a selection committee who oversee the school and assist with any personnel changes or other problems, including financial assistance for those who cannot pay tuition. Students with legacy status (those with parents having graduated from Hogwarts) receive automatic entrance, while students with one parent or relative in attendance may apply and attend at a reduced cost.
Students who complete seven-years at Hogwarts and qualify with grades and on entrance exams receive entrance into Somerset University, located in Godric's Hollow, England.
SOMERSET UNIVERSITY
Founded in 1813, Somerset University is located in the hometown of Godric Gryffindor, one of the four Hogwarts founders. The university was established by descendants of Gryffindor who recognized the need for additional education within the West Country of England. Beginning in a large manor home, Somerset University has expanded to a large campus with approximately 6,500 students - most notably the graduates from Hogwarts Boarding School who are offered admission to the school. Many of these students attend on full or partial scholarships, or tuition waivers as part of a partnership with Hogwarts.
Somerset University is also the home of the Somerset Dragons, the university football squads. In 2010, the men's team were the winners of the BUCS Cup and ranked third in the European Cup finals. The women's team capped the season ranked #4 in the UK, coming in fourth in the BUCS Cup.
